When Ron Carter Went Electric: Exploring 5 Essential Albums
Ron Carter is one of my favorite electric bass player, period.
His bass lines are always to the point and tasteful. He definitely brings to the table the same elegance and attention to details that he carries on the upright.
Five Solos By Paul Chambers You Should Check Out
Among the virtuosos who have left an indelible mark on the jazz landscape, Paul Chambers stands tall as one of the most influential bassists.
Here’s 5 lesser known solos that I find very interesting presented in chronological order:
Tim Green Quartet Live At Brvsh Cvl7ur3 7/9/23
It was a really great night last Saturday playing with the Tim Green Quartet.
A great selection of tunes and very inspiring to play with such experienced musicians.
Paul Chambers and other thoughts
Paul Chambers playing doesn’t just feel right, it feels deeper than that, and most of all his sound, either he’s comping or soloing, is coherent to itself. It doesn’t feel like he’s switching personality from comping to soloing or viceversa.
First-hand knowledge from Al Foster about his years with Sonny Rollins & Miles Davis
Last Tuesday I went to hear Peter Bernstein quartet with my friends Eviatar Slivnik and Tom Oren.
After the concert we got to spend some time with Al Foster and I took some notes.
Giuseppe Cucchiara Quartet Live at Cafe Bohemia- Jan 7th 2023
Had a great time yesterday night playing at Cafè Bohemia with my quartet, room was full and audience fun and supportive.
A few thoughts on Social Media
Social media truly represents how people go about business, ideologies, tastes, personal opinions and so on.
September 19th 2022
The direction that the music is taking is very exciting and, although I keep changing things here and there in my compositions, I feel that we are heading towards the right direction.
A notebook page
Few days ago while tidying up my room I found in one of my notebooks a list of things that I’ve been focusing on in the past few years, on the page it says January 28th 2020.
August 15th 2022
The first time in my life leading two different bands the same night which happens to be, funny enough, one of the most important holidays in my country.
Priorities & Things I don’t want
• Listening to the music I want;
• Practicing what I need to develop my concept and to work as much as possible;
• Playing with who I like;
Reflections
I’m here at my parents house and right now I am in the living room listening to Ornette Coleman live at Golden Circle volume 1 & 2. The living room is where I have spent hours and hours playing instruments and listening all kinds of music sitting on the couch facing the record player.
Mount Harissa
Right before I left NYC, me, Eviatar Slivnik and Daniele Germani gathered some music and we went to Sear Sound to record some stuff.
Concerts in Milan
The first round of concerts of my visit in Europe was great filled with some good music, food and trips.
We played in Milan, Monza and Como and I had a great time playing with Francesco Patti, Andrea Domenici and Andrea Niccolai.
Giuseppe Cucchiara Quartet and some news.
So, on Wed 15th I’ll be going away from New York City for a bit, get the new visa (hopefully) and play some gigs in Italy and Spain, a short visit to Paris too, even though the concert got canceled I still have the airplane ticket.
Live Recordings feat. Ben Solomon, Leo Genovese, Rodney Green.
It’s been a while since my last post but things have been going crazy.
Anyways I’m recollecting some ideas and soon, once I’ll be on the road in Europe I’ll spend more time writing.
